Go G-Men!

James A. Garfield Middle School recently hosted its exciting 2024 Middle School Spelling Bee, where over 30 students displayed their linguistic skills and confidence. The competition, held in front of an enthusiastic audience, was a true celebration of our District’s Core Values of Engagement and Communication.

The event kicked off with a competitive first round, which saw the field narrowed to about a dozen participants by halftime. After a well-deserved lunch break, the energy and determination only grew as the competition intensified. By the end of the day, Emily Penney (8th Grade) emerged as the 2024 Spelling Bee Champion, with Gabe West (8th Grade) earning the title of Runner-Up.

Go G-Men!

As our champion, Emily will proudly represent James A. Garfield Middle School at the next level of competition—the Portage County Spelling Bee—on Saturday, February 22nd, held in the Iva Walker Auditorium.

A huge congratulations goes out to all of the student participants for demonstrating the courage to step on stage and showcase their skills. Their efforts reflect our District’s emphasis on Engagement, as students took an active role in this academic challenge, and Communication, as they worked to master and present complex words with poise.

Go G-Men!

We are proud of all our students for embodying these values and wish Emily the best of luck as she prepares for the next round!
