In the weeks to come our Middle School Students will be taking various Ohio's State Tests. These tests measure student progress towards Ohio's Learning Standards and help us make sure every student receives a high-quality education here at Garfield. While not all grades and subject areas are tested, Federal and State Law requires ELA and Math testing for all students in grades 7 and 8 as well as Science testing for students in grade 8. Each test has two parts to the assessment and will be taken during an AM and PM session here on campus. Below is a timeline of when these tests will take place in our building.
Wednesday, April 10 -- English Language Arts -- All Students Grades 7 and 8
Tuesday, April 23 -- Science -- Students currently taking Science 8, 7th Grade Accelerated Science, or any 8th Grade Student who has not previously taken this exam
Thursday, April 25 -- Math -- All Students in Grades 7 and 8
Our students and teachers have been working hard throughout the year to prepare for these upcoming assessments. Below are some test taking strategies that may be beneficial for your child on the days leading up to the test.
Make sure your child has plenty of rest the night before
Make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast -- Breakfast will be available in the commons for purchase each morning as well
Reassure your child before coming to school and encourage them to take their time and do their best
Make sure your child is not hurried or late the day of the test
If you child happens to be absent the day of the test, please be sure to call the office in a timely manner
Make sure your child has their school issued Chromebook with them on the day of the test
Please help make sure the Chromebook is fully charged when they arrive to campus on testing days
