James A. Garfield Local Schools proudly celebrated Military Family Recognition Month with two meaningful events organized by Military Family Liaison Chris Forgacs and Student and Family Liaison Kristi Fiorentino.military

The first event took place on Wednesday, April 23rd, when nearly 25 students from kindergarten through 12th grade gathered for a special cookout in their honor. Before enjoying hotdogs, chips, and drinks at one of our outdoor classrooms, the students took a walking field trip with Mr. Forgacs to view the JAG Veterans Wall at Garfield High School. This display honors the service of JAG graduates who have served in the armed forces, providing a powerful reminder of the legacy and sacrifice within our own community.

militaryOn the evening of Thursday, April 24th, JAG hosted its second event at the G-Men baseball and softball games against Mineral Ridge. Mr. Forgacs and Superintendent Ted Lysiak grilled hotdogs and hamburgers for all in attendance, creating a festive and patriotic atmosphere. Players showed their support by wearing camouflage hats (baseball) and red, white, and blue bows (softball), while fans were encouraged to wear military-themed apparel in solidarity.

These events come on the heels of a major honor for the district: all JAG school buildings were recently awarded the Purple Star designation by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This recognition highlights our commitment to supporting military-connected students and families through intentional programming, communication, and community partnerships.

We are proud to honor our military families—not just in April, but all year long. 💛🖤 #JAGPride #PurpleStarSchool #MilitaryFamilyMonth
