Garfield Elementary’s Drama Club Jr. is diving into adventure this spring with two delightfully zany productions: Everyone Gets Eaten by Sharks: A Cautionary Tale by Marshall Pailet and Silver’s Secret: A Pirate Adventure by Charlotte Nixon. Performances will be held May 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. in the Iva Walker Auditorium.
Directed by Ms. Jackie Lovelace, with support from the Garfield Middle and High School Drama Clubs, these shows promise a double feature of laughs, life lessons, and light-hearted mayhem.
In Everyone Gets Eaten by Sharks, audiences are invited on a tour of poor life choices led by the fearless (and somewhat reckless) Adventure Dan. From meat-paddle kayaking to post-prom night swimming, this tongue-in-cheek comedy warns of the many ways one might meet a toothy end—because, as the play reminds us, three things in life are certain: taxes, death, and death by shark.
The second show, Silver’s Secret, takes a sillier turn with a pirate adventure packed with cheerleader mermaids, ghosts, smugglers, and lobster stagehands. As legendary pirate Long John Silver lies dying, he sends his less-than-capable children—Red Beard, Black Beard, and No Beard—on a quest for his hidden treasure. With help from their faithful “smees,” the pirates race to find three keys to unlock their father’s legacy. Hijinks, heart, and hilarity ensue.
Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, and $10 for adults. Join us for a night of shark-infested satire and high-seas hijinks, and cheer on Garfield’s young performers as they take the stage with energy, imagination, and plenty of humor.
