The USDA has extended the Summer Food Service program through December 31, 2020 if funding is adequate. This allow James A Garfield to distribute meals to the students attending face-to-face classes at no charge, breakfast and lunch. There will be charges for ala carte items such as individual milk only purchases and additional servings or extra items.
The District will also distribute meals to children who are not present during regular meal service by distributing bagged meals for the week to students starting Monday, September 14, 2020. We will not be offering delivery at this time.
The District requests completion of the online pick-up order form (through Google forms) by 4 p.m. Thursday for the following Monday pick-up. This allows the cafeteria staff to be better prepared for distribution. https://forms.gle/ti6sVCpZRSTf1TfcA
James A. Garfield is an open site for food distribution for children in the area ages 1 to 18.
Distribution includes 5 days of breakfast and 5 days of lunch. Curbside pickup is available from 9 am to 10:30 am each Monday at the High School event entrance starting Monday, September 14. Please make the onsite staff aware of non-school age or alternative school children in the household when you are picking up meals for students.
The waiver allows the Summer Food Service Program or Seamless Summer Option to continue with area eligibility waivers through Dec. 31 if funding is adequate. If funding is not adequate, the USDA reserves the right to end the program extension at a date earlier than Dec. 31. If this happens, the Office of Integrated Student Supports will contact school food authorities as quickly as possible with the new end date.
The district will still be collecting Free and Reduced Meal applications as regular service will resume after December 31, 2020 or sooner if funding is not adequate to support the USDA program.
