Good afternoon. As we progress towards the fall, we will be providing weekly updates on plans for the 2020-2021 school year.
We currently have two committees of staff members working with us to plan pathways for this fall. We will be best prepared if we have options since things are changing so rapidly.
To help us determine the capacity and extent to which each option may be used we will be sending out a survey to parents and caregivers today. The survey will help us gauge potential attendance in each of the options as they are created. Please take the time to complete this survey. It will provide us with information to make the most informed decisions moving forward for the safety of our students and staff.
I wanted to share some things we know as of today:
Visitors - One tradition many parents and guardians have enjoyed here at Garfield is the ability to join their children at lunch. Unfortunately, for us to ensure the required social distancing for our students and staff daytime visitors will be limited to required meetings only.
As you can imagine, our custodial staff will have a monumental task of sanitizing our buildings when we return. The only way they can accomplish this is to limit after school activities. This means that building use permits for outside organizations will be put on hold for the first semester.
Our buildings have always been the hub of this great community and we desire nothing more than to get back to that. We will reevaluate decisions on visitors at the semester break in January.
Athletics - Guidance we are receiving from OHSAA is that the fall season is moving forward as planned. They have cautioned that as with everything in the world today this may change rapidly.
This is what we know as of today. I will be making a weekly call to update you as our plans progress. Please take the time to complete the return to school survey.
As always, I appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted times.
Have a great day. Go G-Men!
