Dear JAG Family-
I wanted to reach to each of you and provide a bit more context to today’s soft lockdown. At approximately 1pm this afternoon, we were informed that an individual was shot near the intersection of State Routes 88 and 303, approximately 3 miles south of our campus. The suspect involved in the incident fled the scene and was last seen headed northwest. In an abundance of caution, our SRO recommended we enter a soft lockdown. We immediately entered the lockdown and began our communications protocols with staff and families as the authorities searched for the suspect. Just before 3pm the authorities confirmed the individual was apprehended and our lockdown was lifted.
While these incidents can cause significant disruption, they are an excellent reminder of why we prepare and practice for such events. In this particular case, I would like to thank all of our staff. Their confidence, patience and calm demeanor kept our students calm and safe. Our students followed suit and responded in accordance with our procedures. Finally, I am very proud of our parents. What often complicates these situations is the immediate arrival of families to remove their children. On behalf of our the Garrettsville PD, the Fire Department and all of our staff I’d like to thank you for your trust. Because we were not crowded with additional traffic and requests, this allowed us to respond to the situation and report to you frequent updates made this particular incident go smoothly and conclude in the best possible outcome.
JAG remains the very best, and safest, place to live, work and learn because of the deep trust and relationships among everyone involved in our community.
If you have any questions or concerns you may always reach to me directly (cell: 216.534.7413, office: 330.527.4336, email: tlysiak@jagschools.org).
Have a great weekend everyone.
